Dr. Sanduk Ruit is the Executive Director of the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is widely known as game changer in restoring vision of the poor, through low cost and high quality cataract surgery. Dr Sanduk Ruit co-created the Himalayan Cataract Project.
Born on September 4, 1954, Dr. Ruit received his MBBS degree from the King George’s Medical College Lucknow in 1976, MD in Ophthalmology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi in 1984.
Dr. Ruit is the recipient of number of honors and awards. Among those honors, he received the prestigious ‘Roman Magsaysay Award for Peace and International Understanding’ in 2006 and he was picked by Albert Einstein Foundation as one of the ‘Hundred Leading Global Visionary of the Century’ in 2017.
