Christian Chatelain became a surgeon and university professor at the Paris Hospitals in 1972. From the early ’60’s, he had as an intern and physician, participated with Pr. René Kuss in the birth of kidney transplants and the rise of other organ transplants. In 1983, he was named head of urology at Pitie Salpétrière Hospital Group, with responsibility for onco-urology, multi-organi transplants and neuro-urology.
He was President of the National Academy of Surgery (2005) and is President of the National Academy of Medicine for 2018.
